Where's The BEEF?

Article #: 16

Dear Charlie,

I have asked several people but no one seems to know for sure - is the magazine still being published? Is CCTV Applications and Technology in publication? If not, can you guide me to a magazine that does specialize in CCTV?

Thanks and keep up the good work. Bookworm George

Dear Bookworm,

Unfortunately, no, the CCTV magazine has not been in publication since the near end of 1996. There have been three different efforts to revive the magazine over the past one year and a half. The first was by the original publishers. Unfortunately, their credibility had slipped beyond repair and they could not entice anyone to step onto the sinking barge. The second effort was by a private investor at the beginning of 1997. Unfortunately, he expected that his entire staff would work for free for the first year. Basing this on the fact that he had made all of the investment and wanted to be repaid first and second that the praise and glory of having name in print would be all that was needed for those hard working folks. The third effort has just come to an end. A magazine based out of the USA made some small efforts, but in the end decided to concentrate on what they had. In this case, a prudent and wise decision.

In the end, I know of these efforts from personal involvement. There may have been others. There are several, well based and qualified magazines in the security industry that have tried to pick up the slack. However, in the end, there are only three magazines that I am aware of that specialize in CCTV and the issues. These are based in Australia, S. Africa, and England. Good magazines that can be received here in the states. The issues however have become somewhat repetitive and so the magazines are not breaking any new ground over the past one or two years.

To help you out and to give you something to look for, I have listed several good security based magazines that you can easily obtain. They are, for the most part free subscriptions that can be received in the USA. One or two of them are printed in Spanish as well. These are the magazines that I pay attention to and in many cases write for regularly. I sincerely hope that you find one or more sources of information listed below to be of a benefit. I use these magazines regularly to keep an eye on the market as well as to learn from the best of the best.
